The leaves of a #pineapple are very interesting! When you get up close and personal with it, you see some beautiful texture and lush, vibrant colours!! One of my favorite fruits!!
Here are 3 steps on how to tell when a pineapple is ready to eat!!
1. Pineapples do not further ripen after they are picked, and shell color is NOT a factor in determining a pineapples ripeness. Organic pineapples can be the sweetest, and they have the greenest shell color. You need to use feel and scent to select the best pineapple.
2. Smell it! If it smells sweet, that means it is ripe. If the pineapple smells fermented, it is over ripe, and ready to rot! if your pineapple has no smell, this indicates it is not ripe yet.
3. If you press down on it, and the pineapple is firm, but gives a little, this is another indicator that it is ripe. If the fruit is hard, it is under ripe, and if it is soft or mushy, it is over ripe.
Note: Some people believe that if a leaf is easily removed from the crown of the pineapple it means it is ripe. This is NOT an indicator of ripeness, leaves are easily pulled off many plants. All you’ll end up with is a bald pineapple.
